Different industry, but I have an anecdote...

My first employer ever (tiny web apps company; I worked there
1999-2001) later picked up his business and moved from Australia to
the Netherlands, and later to Romania, with no problems at all. He still
regularly finds new Australian clients in addition to local ones.

IIRC his original motivation was simply to be closer to Swiss/French
alps for skiing, as he was already spending every January over there
anyway.
