My 2 cents:
a) health insurance. Perhaps it is 'easier' in some non-USA countries, but it is a major cost burden here. If you have say a wife + 1 child (under 25yrs) and you have to pay for what I will call "moderate" level of service, that will cost you about $1800 a MONTH. That is $1800 after tax profit. Which translates to roughly selling $5000 a MONTH of modules. So, if you can sell $60,000 or modules to distribution (which in TURN means about $80,000 RETAIL), then you can pay for the insurance ONLY. 400 at $200 retail before you can make 1 penny.
b) The #1 mistake people make (and they have been making it forever without any end in site) is the thought that in order to make the most money, you have to do EVERYTHING YOURSELF. In fact, the *exact opposite is true*. How many modules does Dieter personally ally a soldering iron to? That would be......ZERO. What happens is you become your own worse enemy in terms of delivery. You LOSE money because you CAN'T DELIVER. Not because you 'lost a sale' over the price.
In order to duplicate my present situation (day job w/insurance & 401K + modules), I would have to sell about 2,500 a year. Not sure if possible!
