Um, several companies make full-blown EEG kits. I have used Biosemi, BrainProducts, Neurosky and Emotiv hardware. The last two aim for smaller consumer applications as well. Besides the sensor, using high-quality amps is also rather important as well as cable quality (or impedance conversion at the sensor).

You could try, but I think the demands on the sensor for EEG are much higher than ECG (= heart monitoring).
