While I mostly agree (and I've never had the desire to clone anything), I
think it can be very useful in two ways:
1.  It makes certain rare items available again (such as the new ARP 2600
clone project, which I plan to build)
2.  It is a useful learning exercise for those new to synth DIY (and for
some old to it as well).
