Jameco has everything.
So does Mouser. Mouser is sometimes better if you want small quantities of things.

Subject: [sdiy] I want to start building audio stuff. What parts should I get?
Hi guys,
I want to put more emphasis on building whole circuits rather than
tuning and repairing existing ones and so I was wondering if someone
could help me out. I've got the gear but I don't have the resources -
that is, I'm missing the parts to build circuits with. I would like to
build things like filters (diode/transistor ladder, SVF), small line
amps, oscillators, etc. Other than a rich supply of ssm2164's, what do
you guys suggest I get? I'd like to make one big order from
reichelt/mouser/etc so that I don't have to buy and wait every few
days and get stalled over and over.
I'm sure a lot of people are in my situation, so maybe this could be a
good place for them to look for ideas. Or maybe there's a guide like
this already?
Here's an ad-hoc list of stuff I'd like to build:
- general modular synth stuff, so the usual: VCAs, LFOs, VCOs, VCFs,
ring modulators, etc.
- distortions/fuzzes
- build some cool circuits with op amps, transistors, diodes, OTAs,
VCAs (be it amps/distortions, or filters)
- small power supplies for the above
- small preamps and line drivers
- simple Z80 based circuits
- equalizers
- LC, LR, RC, LRC filters, wien bridge osc, stuff like that
The idea is to identify a parts list that's going to be enough for
longer experimentation. Assume there's nothing on my workbench other
than a good soldering iron with solder, scope, dmm, and assorted other
audio test equipment.
What would you suggest I buy for the below, and how many? If an item
is not available new anymore, could you add info on places that stock
them? The idea is to name the classics that are used in a lot of
circuits, but also name some of the goodies that are currently
considered very good, without going overboard.
- op amps (staple)
- op amps (go wild and name some good ones)
- VCAs (can you recommend any other than our beloved 2164?)
- OTAs
- transistors (BJT and FET)
- transistor arrays (BJT and FET)
- zener diodes
- other diodes
- germanium transistors
- germanium diodes
- other non-linear active elements
- other ICs
- voltage references (REF series?)
- tempco's
- resistors
- potentiometers
- capacitors (electrolytic)
- capacitors (film)
- inductors
- switches
- connectors (big 'n' small)
- dip sockets
- heatsinks
- other mechanical elements
- esd mat(s) and tools?
- Z80 related stuff?
- good simple ADCs and DACs
- wire
- PCBs
- anything else I left out?
Thanks for any help. You guys are great.
Cheers,
D.
