If this is intended as a replacement for something built pre 1985 or so, 
then I'd not make that recommendation without looking at the indivdual 
circuit.

Most often a the higher rated transformer will have less voltage drop under 
load (depending on the core material and winding style used this could be 
more than 10%).  This, in combination with the now higher line voltage (up 
from nominally 220V to 230V and in most places another 5V higher on average) 
is enough to push some aged components over the edge, especially if their 
rating was somewhat borderline to start with.
