Hi guys,
if you don't know these then you definitely should have a look. I
thought this list might be helpful to analog designers, as the
technology, concepts, and problems are very similar. Oscilloscope guys
had to create extremely precise oscillators (time bases), preamps
(vertical amplifiers), power amps (CRT driving circuitry), very stable
voltages and voltage references. The circuits had to be extremely
linear and very high bandwidth, and they had to keep their properties
in changing conditions including temperature. There were amazing
single-ended as well as differential designs. There's theory on
filters and working in the frequency domain to be learned as well.
Even the designs of power supplies are worth having a look. And if
you're into tube designs, Tek did a lot of precise stuff with them for
decades. A whole different class than your guitar amp design book -
it's actually engineering...

You can find the books at: http://www.davmar.org/concepts.html

Cheers,
D.

The Tektronix Concept Series of books explain just about everything you
could ever want to know about analog oscilloscopes. They are an outstanding
source of knowledge written by professionals in their respective fields.
They cover every aspect of how an oscilloscope works, how all the subsystems
work, and practical applications of oscilloscopes. Virtually all of these
are available on-line. They loosely fall into two groups: Measurements and
Circuits. If your interest is in what you can do with your scope the
measurements books are what you should read. To learn more about how the
circuitry works the circuits books are what you want. Here is the complete
list of books:
