It is very difficult to paint a consistent, even coating, resulting in irregular velocity responses between keys (as I have found to my cost).

yup. The disks work swell EXCEPT probably on the a few of the new ones
where... well I tried to CLEAN a Nord was it a while back? It has an
eprom chip as part of the keyboard that has some precision calibration
data burned into it. Even cleaning the contacts after a spill changed
things enough to where I had to get the guy a new key movement sent over
from Europe. The disks have worked great on all dual contact type
machines so far that I've used them on. Some Yamaha's (eg. cs-2x ) have
that silly partial hemisphere with dot in the middle design. Notoriously
bad contacts for weather changes btw I've found. I gave up keeping that
one in my van :-)
Anyway those you just have to buy new contacts. Meanwhile the
concentric ring ones (used in Kawai K1, K1-II and K4, and Kurzweil K1000
series, and Chroma Polaris and DS8) have been so great...they always
clean up! So have some spares and just haven't bothered thinking about
it. If anyone needs those I can sell spares.
