Thanks a lot for your email.
Close, but no cigar - I've looked at the ADC0820 before. I was happy
until I noticed CS' needs to be strobed, and after the read cycle
begins a wait state happens. This is clock all over again. This means
the parallel output is not reactive (as in: reacting in real time), it
is instead discretized due to the sampling wait state period. The wait
state is necessary to drive the successive-approximation feedback
circuit with the 4-bit DAC that's shown in the equivalent schematic.
Nope, the chip I'm looking for has to be even more crude.. I wonder if
you can search datasheets by part type and *date*. I'd search for
ADC's from 1980 or even 1975, although they were probably not called
ADC's back then (???)
