Is this really a good idea?

Some of those pedals may build internally symmetric DC supply voltages. 
Others may create a single DC supply voltage. In the first case the 
ground is at 4,5 V AC in the second case at 0V AC (ok not really true, 
but I don't find the right words to describe it). Connecting those two 
devices with a unsymmetric audio line would not be a good idea.

Or am I misunderstanding something completely?
