Hi Logan,
how about something like this:

It's UL/CSA approved, cheap and already made. If this is for a project
you're working on, consider using one of these instead of a transformer
so you don't have to deal with 120VAC inside of your enclosure and any
possibility of shock, etc. If this is to power an existing product, just
cut off the end and attach the right connector.
If you need to build an AC-AC power supply from scratch though, find the
appropriate transformer (or take apart the $7 wallwart!) and don't
forget to put a fuse on the mains. I wouldn't use resistors to drop the
voltage of a larger transformer to match your requirements though.
