[sdiy] Ultimate SDIY Workbench?

I had a similar (but much smaller) set up when I first started getting into electronics. The two problems I had with it were:
1) Under-desk storage: If your stuff is far enough away that you're not kicking it every hour - then it's probably a little bit too far away to get to easily.
2) Strip lights at eye level: tiring for the eyes and trying to get directly above whatever you're working on without casting shadows all over it can be difficult.
My 3 best workspace investments:
1) The biggest table top Ikea will sell you. Mine is 180 x 60 cm. Plenty of room, easy height adjustment. Not that expensive. I store my components elsewhere - close by - but not at the table with me. It's deep enough that I can put scopes and what not on it and still have enough depth to work in. Don't forget - you may also want to have a computer nearby...
2) Saddle stool: Good for core strength and posture. Good whether you're looking straight ahead at a screen or looking down at what's on the bench. Rolls under the desk for storage once you're done. You might need to try a couple of models - first one kept me bolt upright - but crushed my balls. o_O This is the one I own (No - not in fluoro green).

3) Daylight bulbs: Honestly - best thing ever. Eyes less tired, small details easier to see (resistor bands etc and a much *nicer* light. Originally I looked at two sets of strips at about GBP175.00 each. Found the same pair for about GBP75.00 ea. Paid about GBP25.00 ea. for an EC-made equivalent. Shop around for price. For strip lights - get one with a ballast.
HTH - good luck!

Subject: [sdiy] Ultimate SDIY Workbench?
I am looking for ideas for the Ultimate SDIY Workbench.
I have just purchased a half decent desoldering station (Pace MT350), and now want to setup a nice workbench for it at home.
What would be your ultimate for SDIY workbench?
Am interested in the work bench itself, as well as tool and parts storage/organisation ideas, and recommendation for essential tools and other bits that make SDIY work easier.
This bench looks alright, you buy the corner bits, and put it together yourself with wood pieces to suit your own configuration...
