It's a screen printing process, so as good as the mask and carbon ink.
 Cheap pots will be a bit "rougher".  If you're a perfectionist don't
even look at "log" pots =:o

it won't be "perfectly smooth" and there will be stepping, but the
question really is whether the pot performance you're paying for is
good enough.  If not, buy a better pot.
