More likely they balked at the small(?!) quantity. One gets the impression if you're not spending $5000 you're not worth the effort.

I think Cool Audio is a division of Behringer. I tried to buy a 1000x V2164 from them direct and they were very reluctant sellers.
I got the impression that they didn't like selling to what they perceived as audio competitors which of course I'm not.
My point is they may not actually be looking for wider distribution of their ICs.
Small Bear has them at a reasonable price though.
