eerm... sorry to ruin your illusions, but the sole purpose of any (public) company is to achieve return on investment.

It is the legal responsibility of a company's Board of Directors to look after the interests of the shareholders.

In reality that means two things:
increasing company valuation and therefore stock value,
and making a profit to distribute as dividends.

Imagine that your CEO decides to invest in something which isn't likely to enrich the shareholders. It is then a legal duty of the board of directors to intervene.

Making money is what a company is for, your 2 cents or mine don't feature. Welcome to capitalism.
