Indeed!  I'd try and get it PAT tested if you can for safety.  Maybe the 
previous owner disconnected the mains earth inside the equipment in an 
attempt to fix a hum loop in his studio?  Or damp has got in while in 
storage?

PS. You can sometimes feel a little tingle when connecting up appliances 
powered by a Class-II (double insulated) switch-mode power supply to a 
system that is earthed in the UK.  This is common with laptops and things 
like TV's, DVD players, Sky boxes, etc.  Because there is no mains earth the 
equipment chasis floats to around 115VAC relative to other equipment.  If 
you manage to get a finger between the chassis and an earthed jack lead you 
will definitely feel it.  That's why most home entertainment equipment 
manuals tell you to make the connections with the power off.  You'll also 
get a brief deafening 50Hz buzz if the tip of the connector makes contact 
before the shield!
