[sdiy] PCB Layout Software?

For random dabbling, I use Eagle. For contract work, I use Altium
(Protel). Altium lets you (to name a few things) calculate striplines
on the fly, syncs with online vendor databases for 3D models,
dimensions, etc. 3D visual mode lets you check the dimensional fit of
everything. And collab mode (which I sync through github) allows board
design by a group. It is not cheap, however: $5K not including
subscription updates.
