Maybe some engineers also understand math, but the engineers I met (in
person) were more or less cookbook type persons. And while they were
certainly no mathematicians who might appreciate the beauty of some
definition of result in and of itself these people were good or very
good at what they did, namely engineering, designing and building
complex eletronic, electrical and mechanical systems.
BTW, most people copy stuff out of books, either verbatim or
paraphrased. The people who don't do will run into trouble pretty
soon because they refuse to stand on the shoulders of giants. I don't
like this sort of classification of human beings according to what you
perceive of their activities. To me that's not very scientific. Let the
results they achieve speak for themselves. Sometimes a little copying
and the right intuition can go a longer way than years of learning and
education. (Not saying that eduction is bad, just that taking pride in
one's own (or your peer's) knowledge and achievements is dubious.)
