[sdiy] Translinear circuits

I stumbled across some information about translinear circuits
today....  Not a concept I'm familiar with, but I was intrigued at the
idea of things like being able to do transforms like the pythagorean
theorem.

Looking a little deeper into what I can find online, it looks like
current mirrors are examples of translinear circuits, but I can't find
any examples other than that of them showing up in the
musical/synthesizer context.

I'm curious whether this is because it's well known and not
interesting, well known and already explored and descried in different
ways, or... ?  I figure there's enough collective experience in
engineering here that someone has a better idea of these things than I
do.  Anyone have any thoughts to how they could be or have been
applied?
