As someone else has already commented, to me it would seem preferable if you
could introduce the concept of a voltage divider first, then move on to
frequency dependent resistance of a capacitor and then have them understand
by themselves what happens when the capacitor is put either on the top or
bottom leg of the voltage divider and how it behaves for different
frequencies. Tell them these things are called an RC low-pass and an RC
high-pass later. These are three or maybe four easy experiments that they
could do themselves and it would likely help them understand a great deal
more than just ex-cathedra explanation.
