Hi Aaron and folks,

All of the DSP's in the DSP56xxx are at the end of the design generation as "StandAlone" devices according to Marketing at Freescale.

There may be re-use of the core in a "SOC" design if there is a need for it. I personally would not count on the devices being available after the next 5-6 years as orders will dwindle and at some point , the devices are considered end of life.

The DSPx5672x Dual Core devices are @ 90 nm and are under the 10 year longevity program from launch of the device. Hence maybe 6 to 7 years with EOL notice. I can only repeat what I was told while still employed at Freescale.

I am currently self employed after almost 28 years at Motorola/Freescale Semiconductor.

The DSP56364 uses the same core as the DSPx56362/366/367 devices. The DSPx56371/374 use a newer version of the DSP core modeled from the DSP56311. Just a different memory and I/O configuration.

My suggestion is to use the Cortex M4 or Cortex A series ARM instead and focus on a single engine for programming.

Mixed DSP and MCU/ARM is a much more advanced project and is difficult to support in an open forum as I discovered with the Tone Core project.

best always,
Terry Shultz
