[sdiy] mini-din socket - panel mount?

A Mouser 571-1838838-2 is a M8 panel connector which is 4 conductors. I've
never used one but the mounting hole is 8.1mm or 0.319", just slightly
smaller than the 0.375" hole for the 1/4" jack. The mating plug is
571-1838288-3 has a cable attached. They're not cheap.
I can't tell whether there is a ground shield or not but if you are in the
same synth cabinet then you could use all four pins for signals. Just a
thought and they will fit up to a 3mm panel. There may be other M8
connectors that would work better.

Thanks all for the input, I'll search the links y'all provided. I'm hoping
to not have to modify the case any, I couldn't bring myself to drill through
the panel (again).
My plan : Each of the (4) oscillators provide 2-5 waveforms simultaneously,
so having direct outs for these would offer some interesting flexibility I'm
thinking. If I can replace the current 1/4 output it currently has for each
oscillator with a mini-DIN, then I can build some mini-DIN to 1/4" adapters
for patching.
Thanks again
Ryan
