As a self-taught novice at synth electronics I've appreciated these
recommendations by the list:
Pease, Robert A. - Troubleshooting Analog Circuits 1991 Elsevier. Paul
Perry put me on to this, entertaining pearls of wisdom and experience,
right down to the passive component level.
Lancaster, Don - CMOS Cookbook 2nd Ed 1997 Butterworth Heinemann
Jung, Walter G. - IC Op-Amp Cookbook 1986 Third Ed SAMS. (Apparently
there are errors in earlier editions?). There is also the spin-off
"Audio IC Op-Amp Applications" by the same author, and publisher, that
deals with pre amps, EQs, filters etc
Non-technical but good resources:
Colbeck, Julian - Keyfax Omnibus 1996 MixBooks. Fairly comprehensive
compendium of reviews of synths, samplers, organs and key controllers,
from the Farfisa Compact circa mid-sixties, to the mid-nineties. Easy
and fun to read, and a great reference. Nearly every entry has a B & W
photo. Also look out for earlier editions from the eighties, where
more obscure stuff is included. I have Keyfax 2, from 1986.
Vail, Mark - Vintage Synthesizers 1993 Miller Freeman. Another great
Leonard Pubs). Brilliant collection of articles that first appeared in
Keyboard Magazine, most of them are by Bob from the late 70s giving
lucid explanations on topics such as Loudness and Attack Shaping,
Principles Of Voltage Control, Phasers etc. I got a great trick from
one of his articles here about synthesizing stereo from a mono source...
Anderton, Craig - Midi For Musicians 1986 AMSCO Pubs. May be
considered a bit dated now, but enormously helpful to me back in the
eighties getting my head around midi! The full MIDI spec is in the
back of the book.

p.s. of course, Horowitz and Hill, we are not worthy etc etc
