[sdiy] FX send /return - wet/dry control operation

The AUX send on a mixer is send only. The returns tend to be
completely separate circuits. I've only heard of one mixer having a
wet/dry pot on an insert (useful for per-channel effect) but that was
a bit of an oddity.

But yes, wet/dry is simply a mix between the raw (dry) and processed
(wet). The simplest way to do this is to apply both signals to each
end of a pot's track, and then the mix comes from the wiper. There
are nicer ways to do this of course.
