If your experience is anything like mine, the hardware aspects of I2S 
are dirt simple - wire up the DAC/Codec lines to the equivalent MCU pins 
and you're done. The "fun" part comes in setting up the code and 
peripheral registers in the MCU. That can take 99% of your effort, and 
of course it's different for every type of processor. I think I'm on my 
third or fourth MCU architecture now and I have to relearn it each time.
