[sdiy] Help! Cable tester needed

I think I would just build a jig with the requisite number of leds & 
resistors and a battery, and plug the cables in.

If it helps, I have made many many IDC cables the hard way (hand held tool) 
and, provided the cable is exactly at right angles, nothing EVER goes wrong. 
I'm astonished at how reliable IDC is.

The other thing is, if you are going into quantity production, it is worth 
making a test example, that has sockets so you can test any components that 
are critical. If you have doubts about a particular component, you can just 
swap it in.
