Well, I don't usually.  I was just curious about the attenuation.  It's
amazing how a sawtooth wave through a triggered resonant filter really cuts
through the noise, even at uV levels!  It really accentuates the need for
good muting.

Yes, I think so, and it will only require about 25 cents in additional
parts.  The best part of this discussion for me was being reminded that I
have a copy of Douglas Self's book and that it includes an entire chapter on
muting.  It was a very enlightening read, and I think I've got the basic
principles well and truly digested now.  It will be very interesting to see
how much better of a "gate" the 2164 can be with a shunt transistor on the
input.
