And a there's a resonance VCA too, in the case of the CEM3320. That was its best feature ahead of the SSM2040. Furthermore both chips have buffers which are better than the darlington pair on the LM13700. Many LM13700 filters use external buffers (op-amps or FETs) which adds more circuitry.
