There is one company I have come across that is using the two 'spare' pins on the DIN connector for power supply. They make MIDI hubs, combiners and so on and supply power down the two unused pins. I have no idea how many products are out there that might use it. I have been asked a few times to design for this but I usually talk them out of it.
