I have built a shufflebox 
(http://www.frequencyresponse.ch/?p=shufflebox) into my TR-808 and I am 
using the socket for both, but I extended the switch which selects 
between DIN and MIDI Master on the shufflebox to switch also the wires 
between DIN and MIDI function.
