Second shot at sending this - I didn't see the first attempt work. Sorry if duplicate...:
One of my many "other" hobbies is metal detectors - DIY and use.
I recently obtained one called a Minelab GP Extreme. These models of detectors from Minelab do not have speakers - they rely upon headphone use.
That's cool at the beach, but in the desert I'd like to be able to hear snakes if they make themselves known.
These detectors typically have a constant audio output tone that is a little warbly but gets louder and/or varies in frequency if a target is detected.
There was a product called Superfix that may have had a DSP inside to allow silence until a target is detected. It was complicated to use though and very very expensive.
I'm wondering if one of these mini-DSP things: http://www.minidsp.com/index.php would be worth trying on the detector audio and what features may be cool to have.
TI also makes a series of chips with what are called mini-DSP (such as the PCM3070) I don't know if both are really using the same parts or not.
Have any of you tried either of these? I'd like to ask questions regarding their capabilities.
Barry
