[sdiy] New manufacture BBD's noisier than originals?

I have a Yamaha FL100 flanger that has an MN3208 (very weird for a
flanger!). I also have a Radio Shack "reverb" (the one with the black
box & sliders) that had an MN3207 which I traded for a BL3208A (fits in
8 pins). The latter unit is much noisier than the former, even with a
smaller timing cap. I was wondering if the new BBD's are just noisier or
if the 8-pin vs. the 14-pin are noisier. I haven't tried a 14-pin
BL3208.I suppose it's sort of an apples & oranges comparison, especially
since I use the FL100 in my guitar rig and the other in my studio setup,
which has a better frequency response. I'm wondering how the Coolaudio
V3208D sounds, since it looks like Smallbear doesn't sell the BL3208A
anymore.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Anthony
