And it's not just the fees. UPS' talent for botching a rush delivery
when you really really really need something by a specific time is
also vexing. Their undertrained clerks will screw up the data entry
on the shipment and voila, the address and postal code don't match.
They no longer can deliver it, and will wait until late in the day
to tell you. Or maybe they'll typo the customs info and your package
will be stuck in customs for days. Grrrrr.

The up-front costs for USPS may be higher, but in the long run, it's
less cost and aggravation all around.
