I guess I'm really lucky because I live within 10 minutes' drive of the US
border. I use a shipping service in Point Roberts, Washington (a tiny
little non-contiguous part of the US which is only not part of Canada
because it sits below the 49th parallel). It costs $3.00 to have a small
package (up to 15 lbs) shipped there, and I have never had to pay a dime at
customs. Sending stuff from a post office in the US is awesome as well. I
once sent some PCBs (a few ounces) to someone in Alberta via Canada Post and
it cost me $11 because the envelope was too thick to be considered a
"letter". If I'd have driven to Washington and sent it from there, it would
have cost about $3. Plus, I just sent a parcel to Norway and it got there
in about 8 business days. If I'd have sent it from Canada, it would
probably still be sitting in Montreal or some damn place.
