[sdiy] slightly OT: Korg M1R 3V battery replacement - how to do it it without losing patches

I know that if you replace the battery in a Korg M1, the patch memory
goes away and you have to get stuff online to put them back on or
whatever.

What I plan to do is piggyback 2 AA batteries soldered to the 3V
lithium button holder traces. This seems like an easy way to save the
memory - my battery isn't DEAD yet.

I just want to know if there are any caveats. I know it seems like a
dumb question, but is there any risk using a battery type any other than
a 3V lithium to temporarily piggyback the battery? I'm sure I've seen
mention of this sort of technique before. I just don't want to screw up
a really awesome synth. Actually, I wouldn't mind totally programming
all the patches from scratch if I HAD to. I assume all of the PCM's &
drum samples are still there. I've been reading the manual and patch
programming is pretty straightforward, if not time consuming. But I
digress... I submit this to SDIY because I will be soldering a battery
holder on my synth, hence DIY. And I'm not really familiar with the
synth forums online. I trust you guys to give me the straight dirty.

I just wish Korg had designed the synth so that you could change the
battery when the unit is powered on (something I looked into and decided
was NOT feasible!).
