The first Ethernet chips and the 68000 (or what variant) that powered 
the original Cisco router where the game-changers.

The 68k family stayed in the Cisco routers all the way up to 7000 as I 
recall it, but then they migrated to MIPS as I recall it. The 4700 and 
7513 where MIPS if I recall things correctly. Lost track of it since.
