Analog chips technology.... 
Yes it's becoming more difficult
to find good analog IC's, often getting obsolete parts is tough.. but..
I'll always prefer putting my hands in hardware, thru holes parts,
easy to handle and replace parts (no SMT),
sometimes small application 8bits CPU like Microchips 
than scratching my head doing complicated maths
for DSP & FPGA's applications... 
And I'm not talking about aliasing problems to cure... Not all the users on this list are engineers  here folks.. 
Trying to find info about a DSP or FPGA chip program used in a circuit 10 years old or more
DIY board is hard even if you have the designer reachable..
