OK, I'm not large scale either... but a very long time ago, with my father as a doctor, I decided to put my resistors and other through-hole components into blood vials like the one in this photograph. Then I just labeled the outside.

Although I was young and poor at the time, and this solution seemed as good as any given how easy clean unused blood vials were to obtain. The thing is that 25 years later, I'm still using them and have never misplaced a resistor. :) -pc
