These are really cheap and come in several different styles (mono, 
stereo, mono switched). This link is from Mouser in the US but I'm sure 
they can be found from international distributors.
The only potential issue is that the ground connection would have to be 
established through the bushing / through the faceplate. you could work 
around this if necessary by running a jumper down from the little ground 
arm to the PCB.
Don't know what to say about all the component height discussion that's 
been going on but..... here's a component option to throw into the mix.
