I think a large de-motivating factor these days is that pretty much any
service doc you put the time and effort in to scan and make freely available
will then appear on CDR on eBay and various paid-for PDF sites, making money
for some greedy arsepiece. For a carefully reverse-engineered schematic,
that would be even more annoying.
