It also depends a lot on what the parameter is used for.
Generally, Filter Resonance is something you don't mess with much.
Rarely have I ever modulated it. I generally only have 2 or 3 CV inputs
to control Filter Resonance.
The VCO frequency is a different matter. I have 6 frequency
control inputs on the VCO I use. Sometimes I use them all, sometimes I
don't. Same with VCF frequency.
To sum it up, (pun intended), the more difference a CV input makes
to the sound, the more input I provide.
