Not overkill. Another of my MSP430 projects is to replace obsolete chips 
with MSP430xxxx processors. Now if Mouser would only drop their prices. TI 
advertises the chips for less than $0.50 each. The cheapest that Mouser 
carries is about $1 in reasonable quantities.
