If you plan to modify or repair gear in the future you should consider
to get a desoldering station.
One of the two Pauls here :-) (I don't remember whether it was Paul
Perry or Paul Schreiber?) once recommended a DenOn SC7000. Others
recommend Hakko desoldering stations. Both aren't cheap. I bought the
DenOn desoldering gun, and it was the best investment I made in any tool
in the last 10 years.
