I know that there are linear (Hz/V) VCOs, but I've not heard of a linear
VCF.  However, it would give a more limited and useful range of cutoff
control than most VCFs, and could still be controlled exponentially with an
exponential envelope.

Verdict: Why not?  Try it and see if you like it.
