You will still need to run it into a virtual ground, but the signal for the
current sense amplifier can directly be taken from the feedback resistor of
that opamp. The sad reality is that CoolAudio simply copied the 2164 and
its datasheet instead of thinking and adding two current mirrors to the
output (and allowing to take that base resistor out of the loop).

MAX9934 for instance, but you'll find many more (LT1787, ZXCT1010, INA193).
Since they aren't directly made for this application, these will require
varying support from additional circuitry depending on what exactly you want
to do.
