I also used an USB microscope mounted on a gooseneck and another gooseneck with mounted fan beside it to blow away the solder smoke. I wanted to use this constelation for SMD soldering but the latency was too high. It was fast enough with lower resolution and but the resolution wasn't enough for soldering (320x240).
So I kept on soldering und a magnifying glass with LED light and use the USB microscope for solder joint inspection after soldering.
For this it doesn't matter if there is some latency.

I have a USB microscope(20$) and mounted it on my DIY CNC. With the joystick I can move XY and Z axis and inspect the thing on my 24" monitor :). It works !
