Thanks for the input on this. Turns out they were just after a visual reference - i.e. the silk screen layer with part IDs... which they already had. Solved.

However - what I did learn is that if you Export a Part List from the Board (not the Schematic...) the exported .txt file includes part coordinates (it doesn't if you do it from the Schematic). These are set in whatever unit of measurement the Board is in.
