Before I started sending board designs off for professional production,
I used a photographic process. The special paper I used to print the
images (a bit like posh tracing paper) was quite expensive so, yes, I
would wait until I had several designs, and fill up as much as I could
before running through the laser printer.
Oh, and I used ammonium persulphate as an etchant. Unlike ferric
chloride, which is yucky yuck epitomised, it's easy to see through, so
no problem seeing how far the etch has progressed. Also used a bubble
etch tank, which was WAY easier and quicker than using a rocker dish
(and it's temperature-controlled.)
