The circuit in question is on pg 14.
I've done some simple simulations of this and it should work, even for
normal Si diodes. There are some things to watch out for:
1) you need a difference amplifier to recover the tripled waveform from
the two bridge taps
2) the tap on the voltage divider on the left side needs to be set so
that the peak amplitude of the waveform on that side is less than the
diode drop to maximize the tripled signal.
The resulting waveform is basically the input wave with the peaks folded
down. Nothing you couldn't do just as well (or better) with a
single-stage wave folder we've all seen before.
