After some hunting around (grrrrr) I found this which I think is what

I simulated it in SPICE (same value resistors, 1N4148 diodes) and after 
adjusting the potential divider I got something out that technically was 
three times the input frequency, with a 1kHz sine input.  But it 
certainly wasn't a sine output, so there'll be lots of harmonics.  And 
you'll need a difference amplifier to extract the signal between the two 
points indicated in the circuit.

I guess the two important questions are:
1/ HOW did you build it?
2/ WHAT were *you* expecting?

In effect its a rather simple (crude) wave folder.
